Hearts and Coffee: Parade of Hearts and Coffee Houses

This summer of 2024 sees the installation of 101 “works of heART” across the Kansas City area. The Parade of Hearts features 5-foot by 5-foot heart sculptures, decorated by local artists, and installed in interesting locations. This concept has been done before and in other cities around the world. The hearts will be on display through August. After that, the hearts will be sold via auction to raise money for area non-profits and charities.

I have decided to visit and share these sculptures through a new Chuck Eats KC “quest” that I’m calling “Coffee and Hearts.” I will be visiting hearts that have coffee shops nearby. I’ll take pictures of both the hearts and the coffee shops and then sharing them on social media and here. Some of the hearts have multiple coffee shops nearby, so I will list all of them. I will not be listing any corporate chains that aren’t locally based.

Amelia Earhart – Atchison, KS – Scott Manley

This heart is located several miles west of Atchison, at the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum. It features two designs about the famous aviator, on both sides of the heart.

As a sculptor, I was very impressed with this tribute to Earhart

Stop 3 – Leawood, Kansas

Today’s heart is themed to match the business it stands in front of, in this case Helzberg Diamonds. Romance is the theme of this heart at Leawood Town Center. Located a few feet north of 119th Street, Shake Shack is next door. Our coffee today is from Revocup.
