- RC’s Restaurant and Lounge is closing in Martin City. Rob and Sommack Paxton bought the restaurant in 2023 from the Van Noy family, who had been running the chicken restaurant since 1973. The Paxton’s still own and run Thai House on Holmes Road. They had opened a Thai concept called Rockin’ Wok Thai Room in 2023 in RC’s upstairs event space. That closed in September of 2024. Chuck’s father had been attending a monthly meet-up of former co-workers at RC’s. He will miss their chicken gravy.
- Penny’s in the Village is scheduled to open in late January. It is a new Thai restaurants by Penny and Doug Mufuka, who currently own Bamboo Penny’s and Aqua Penny’s. The new restaurant will be located at The Shops of Prairie Village at 4160 W. 71st St.
- Over Flow Coffee House has opened a location in Gladstone at 504 NE 70th Street
- Yum: A Boutique Bakery is closing at the end of January. The owners cited street car construction on Main Street, the COVID pandemic, and health issues as reasons for the closure.
- Nick and Leslie Goellner, owners of the Antler Room since 2016, are planning a new Japanese concept in the Crossroads District.
- Mildred’s is opening a new location in the South Plaza neighborhood at 5060 Main Street on January 10th.

- Farm Fresh Market is a new grocery store that just opened at Red Bridge shopping center (photos below), replacing the old Sunfresh.
- Aldi opened a new location at 119th and Metcalf, in the space next to the former Bed, Bath & Beyond.
- Meanwhile, Pan-Asian Market is moving across the street to the space next to the new Aldi.
- Baba’s Pantry (1019 E 63rd St, KCMO) debuted a soft opening of Baba’s Bakery over the post-Christmas weekend. The new bakery will announce regular hours soon.
- Texas Tom’s is opening a new location in Independence at 10690 E US Hwy 40. This is the former location of Rosie’s Cafe.
- Harold’s Drive-In closed at the end of December. The drive-in operated at Admiral Boulevard and Lydia Avenue for 66 years.
- Kansas City area restaurants have been experiencing an epidemic of break-ins and robberies in recent months. Often happening at night. The City of KCMO has offered some support to store owners. More shockingly, Earl’s Premier, a seafood restaurant in Brookside, experienced an armed robbery a few days after Christmas.
