Taqueria Mexico #4

At the corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Southwest Boulevard, you’ll find Taqueria Mexico . The popular Mexican restaurant has a large outdoor patio, big dining room suitable for families and large parties, and extensive bar. Lots of parking and near KU Med Center and an Interstate 35 exit. It’s been one of my favorites for years as a Mexican restaurant with quick seating and large variety of menu options. Has the feel of a suburban Mexican restaurant, but with the independent vibe, charm, and cuisine.

Their menu is extensive, so if you need a Mexican option with menu variety for your dining companions, you are in good hands here. I’d say that their specialties are the large seafood dish selection, their fajitas, and their molcajetes. They have four kinds of molcajetes, including the Molcajetes de Mariscos (mussels, scallops, calamari, octopus, shrimp, and fish filet).

Seafood specialties include Camarones A La Diabla (spicy grilled shrimp in chipotle sauce), Pescado Frito (whole fried catfish), Camarones Hawaiianos (shrimp, hame, pineapple), and a variety of seafood tacos.

And then there are 18 dinner entrees! Bistec Mariposa is a steak filled with cheese and jalapeños. Pollo a la Mexico is a marinated grilled chicken breast with cheese dip corn and poblano peppers.

Along with Los Tules, Taqueria Mexico has one of the best spinach enchilada platters in town. I also like their chile relleno, chips and salsa, and tacos. Mostly, I just love their atmosphere and big menu.

Dining companion : “I like to get fish soup (caldo de pescado) and grilled nopales.”

Taqueria Mexico has additional locations on Southwest Boulevard (closer to downtown) and on Independence Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri.
