Visiting a favorite local vegan bakery
One of the places I’ve missed the most during the pandemic is Mud Pie on 39th Street in Kansas City, Missouri. This vegan bakery and coffee house has long been a favorite place to work, take kids for treats and hot cocoa, listen to a band, look at art, or have meetings with friends. The huge house that houses Mud Pie has been several coffeeshops over the past twenty years, but Mud Pie has become an institution there.
This will be a bit of a photo essay quick review, but before we get to the pictures, let’s talk about the bakery part of Mud Pie. Mud Pie’s selections change daily, so be prepared for that variation, but they tend to have common formats like scones, muffins and cookies. All items are vegan. This week featured menu items include Cheddar Sausage Scones, Pumpkin Cream Cheese Swirl Muffin, Strawberry Poptart, Strawberry and Cream Crumb Cake, Mini Double Chocolate Donut, and Tart Cherry & Orange Muffin.
Their coffees and drinks are always top notch and the baristas are always friendly and helpful. Keep in mind that this being a vegan bakery, that anything added to coffee will be vegan.
Mud Pie also has a location in Overland Park.
