Do you remember the restaurant where you dined inside actual train cars and the signature dish was prime rib? There were two Kansas City locations of this international chain, which had 97 restaurants during its heyday of the 1970s and 1980s.
Do you have a dish that you order every time you go to specific restaurant? Do you have a favorite style of dish whenever you go to a certain style of restaurant? Even when the restaurant has dozens of dishes that you’d really like to try? Are you the type of diner who loves trying new things, but you have the default comfort order?
I was a resident of Lawrence, Kansas from 1983 to 1989. During most of this period, I was a student at the University of Kansas. This look back is biased a little bit towards this era. Even though I have lived in the area since the early 2000s, I don’t think I’ve dined at any Lawrence restaurants since then. I need to change that!
