April 2024 saw lots of restaurant news, including the closing of a burger spot I like and the opening of several concepts I’m excited about.
- Mugs-Up Root Beer has re-opened in Independence. (700 East 23rd St S, Independence, MO 64055)
- Westport Ale House has closed after a popular run of over a decade. Owners cited increasing food and beverage costs.
- Downtown Deli & Market by Flavor in downtown Lee’s Summit is closing to shift operations to online only. The owner cites high food costs as being a primary cause of the closing.
- The Drunken Worm is re-opening under new owners. The bar and grill has been a popular watering hole on 39th Street in KCMO for year. I’ve even spent some time there once or twice.
- Abelardo’s Mexican Fresh opened last week at 7510 Shawnee Mission Pkwy in Overland Park.
- Noah’s Cupboard in Weston, Missouri, which was a small farm-to-table concept, is now Noah’s Delicatessen. (521 Main St)
- Land & Sea Kitchen has opened in Raytown at 6020 Blue Ridge Blvd. Their lunch menu this week offers Chicken Sausage Links, wings, shrimp, and a Land & Sea Lunch Platter.
- Dunn Deal BBQ is opening this week in Grandview at 506 Main Street.
- Aqua Penny’s has opened in Leawood’s Park Place. This is a sister concept to Bamboo Penny’s.
- Lenexa’s Restaurant Row is coming this summer to Lenexa City Center. Restaurants will include Zhoug Mediterranean, Enjoy Pure Food and Drink, and Cactus Grill.
- BurgerFi is closing its store at Leawood Park Place, to be replaced by Mother Clucker.
- Red Kitchen KC: CIEN por ciento mexicana recently opened in Overland Park (7926 Santa Fe Drive). It bills itself as “a true Mexican style street food restaurant, cien por ciento Mexicana, serving authentic foods from Mexico City.”
- Saints Pub Express has closed in Shawnee.
- Flying Cow Gelato is opening on May 14th at 7321 W. 80th Street. It will be the sister store to Annedore’s Fine Chocolates.
- Pizza Shuttle in Overland Park has closed its location there.
- KC Asian Mart is a new grocery store in Overland Park, at Antioch and College Boulevard.
